The fauna of the peninsula consists of the large number of animal species such as mountain-partridges, turtles, foxes, hares, hedgehogs, snakes (natrix- natrix, natrix tessellata, elaphe situla), frogs (turtoise testudo haermanni, bufo viridis), lizards (lacertsa viridis, Gescko hemidactylus turcicus), nortural butterflies, grasshoperscrickets, etc. On the coastal area you can see the "Alkioni" (kingfisher) a tiny bird that lives near the water and feeds on the fish. The best way to get to know the fauna of the peninsula is to hike along one of the many footpaths. The best hours for animal watching are from 7 to 10 am and in the summer from 6 to 8 am. |
