Municipality of Methana was first established in the 28th of April (10 May) 1834 (OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC 19), as the municipality of Kalavria province. It was classified in C grade, with population of 1.349 residents and seat the city of Methana. The citizens were named Methanis. Initial constitution: Methana (307), Vromolimni (149), Agios Theodoros (233), Kounoupitsa (190), Ъato Miga (127), Pano Miga (79), Mouska (264). Later Annexations: Dritzeika, Koliani, Agios George, Kosona, Megalohori, Vathi, Kameni Hora, Megalo Potami, Panagia, Stenon, Sterna Gamvrou, Ano Mousha, Kato Mousha. With the parliamentary decree of 20 November 1857 (OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC 43), the seat of Municipality was transferred from Kounoupitsa village to Vromolimni village and with the parliamentary decree of 29 December 1866 (OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC 4/1867), returned back in Kounoupitsa. The parliamentary decree of 6 September 1879 (OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC 64), classified the municipality in B grade, with population of 2.149 residents. With the parliamentary decree of 19 June (OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE HELLENIC REPUBLIC 25), was designated as vernal capital of municipality the Vromolimni village and wintry the village of Kounoupitsa.
